Think beyond your local marina. Start your search in the Boats and Yachts category on ALVAU and compare type, year, location and tax status before arranging an inspection. ALVAU describes its international marketplace as operating in over 170 countries. That reach provides a reason to look internationally; it does not establish that every yacht featured here is currently listed on the platform.

Superyachts: Series-Built, Semi-Custom and Bespoke
These eight motor monohulls cover all four purchase budgets and span roughly 25 to 55 meters. An older sports yacht represents the first band, a classic flybridge yacht the second, and larger motor platforms the upper bands. Their references are for delivered, pre-owned yachts; age, configuration and condition help explain the price differences.

Sunseeker Predator 82, original generation — EASY

EASY brings the first budget into the motor-superyacht comparison. The original Predator 82 combines a long, low sports-yacht silhouette with an enclosed saloon and a large aft cockpit. At 24.97 meters LOA, it falls just above this guide’s approximate superyacht convention. Its open-air pleasures come from cockpit seating and sunpads rather than the stacked guest decks of a larger displacement yacht.
The 2007 example advertises eight guests in four cabins, with two double-bed cabins and two twin cabins. That arrangement can suit a family who values a sociable cockpit and a compact guest plan. The public price is for an older delivered yacht. Age, equipment and maintenance history explain why a yacht of this length can sit below one million dollars.
Survey the machinery, hull, glazing, roof mechanism and hotel systems, and establish the next major service commitments. The advertised tax-paid position refers specifically to Turkey; it should be checked against the intended ownership and cruising region. This is a purchase-price example, while an operating plan still needs separate crew, fuel, berth and maintenance estimates.

Sunseeker 88 Yacht, original 2011 generation — NATASCHA

NATASCHA supplies a motor-superyacht example in the second budget. This is the original 2011-generation 88 Yacht, whose main saloon, aft dining area and raised flybridge create several settings for a small owner party. Its character is more residential than the low Predator, while the overall length remains below the larger motor yachts in the next band.
The official brokerage description identifies eight guests in four staterooms, including a master, a forward VIP and two twins. It also describes a flybridge spa tub and interiors using walnut, leather and marble. These are details of the selected yacht; inspect their condition and the actual inventory rather than treating the materials alone as proof of a completed refurbishment.
The purchase reference is GBP 1,895,000 with tax advertised as paid. Establish what documents support that status and where it applies. Have the engines, generators and flybridge equipment demonstrated during inspection, and confirm the crew accommodation. Buyers should distinguish this delivered 2011 yacht from the later 88 Yacht design that reused the model name; a current-generation specification is not an exact description of NATASCHA.

Sanlorenzo SL96A — JICJ

The SL96A uses an asymmetric main-deck arrangement to allocate space differently from a conventional walk-around yacht. JICJ’s published description emphasizes generous saloon glazing and a five-cabin layout. This is an architectural decision within a normal monohull, not an uneven or two-hulled vessel.
For a buyer coming from a large cruising yacht, the attraction is a more formal division between guest accommodation and professional operation. The selected 2023 boat advertises crew provision, zero-speed stabilizers and a number of equipment upgrades. The individual inventory should be part of the comparison, because two SL96A yachts can have different interior treatments and systems.
The trade-off is the transition to a substantial motor-yacht operating budget. Maintenance of engines, generators, stabilization and hotel systems matters as much as the visible furniture. Tax is not paid in the selected asking price, so the net figure does not determine an import-ready cost. Inspect the actual yacht in Split and verify its documentation, rather than relying on the continued presence of a current model page as proof of availability.

Ferretti Yachts 1000 — EPIC, hull 01

EPIC provides a concrete purchase reference for Ferretti’s large open-flybridge design. The five-stateroom layout includes a main-deck owner’s suite, with guest cabins below. Its appeal is a familiar motor-yacht arrangement made more spacious, rather than the much taller deck stack of a full displacement superyacht.
The selected manufacturer-group listing identifies hull 01, built in 2021, with twin MTU engines. A new-build model page lists different engine choices, so headline series speeds should not be assumed to apply to every delivered yacht. The example belongs in the third budget band as a pre-owned asking reference.
When comparing it with the Navetta 33, consider whether the priority is the flybridge lifestyle and planing-yacht layout or a more vertically layered cruising arrangement. Professional operation, machinery condition and crew access deserve an inspection alongside the saloon. Confirm the actual crew quarters and measured beam: the sale page and current series specification differ in these details. A tax-excluded price and a model’s largest-size position are not substitutes for a yacht-specific operating plan.

The sale record lists 6.58 m beam, while the current builder specification gives 6.81 m maximum beam; crew-cabin fields also differ. Confirm both on the delivered yacht.
Sunseeker 116 Yacht — NOROADER

NOROADER shows why a refit must be separated from a build year. Northrop & Johnson identifies a 2020 Sunseeker 116 with a 2023 refit, rather than a yacht newly built in 2023. The advertised updates include furnishings, floors, lighting and renewed flybridge amenities.
The attraction is an established large-flybridge platform with five guest cabins, outdoor entertaining areas and professional crew provision. For an owner who wants a social Mediterranean itinerary, the relationship between the foredeck, flybridge and main-deck saloon may be more important than an extra enclosed deck.
The practical work is checking what the refit actually covered. Cosmetic renewal does not reset the age of engines, generators, stabilizers or other equipment unless their replacement is documented. Confirm inclusions carefully: some tenders and watersports equipment are offered under separate negotiation. The broker’s listed range is approximately 1,250 nautical miles at 12 knots, a condition-specific figure rather than a maximum-speed promise. Ask for fuel, machinery and trial records before using that figure to plan delivery.

Benetti B.Now 50M — IRYNA II, formerly IRYNA

IRYNA II marks a substantial change in the scale of ownership. A steel hull and aluminum superstructure, enclosed upper lounge and broad exterior decks create a different operating proposition from the approximately 30-meter composite yachts. IYC’s selected record gives ten guests in five cabins and crew accommodation for nine.
The attraction is how the yacht combines owner privacy with a larger selection of guest spaces. The published features include an owner’s suite with office and private lounge, an elevator and a sea-level beach club. These features should be assessed as part of an individual delivered yacht, rather than assumed standard on every B.Now configuration.
The purchase reference is EUR 29.5 million. At this level, technical management, survey scope and major-maintenance planning become early decisions. Obtain the actual hull documents and reconcile the timeline: IYC labels the build 2021, while Benetti presented the first B.Now 50M IRYNA at Monaco in 2022. Neither a model introduction nor a refit date should be silently used as the build year.

Amels 180 — LA FAMILIA

LA FAMILIA represents the Limited Editions approach: a repeatable technical platform combined with an owner-specific interior and equipment decisions. Delivered in 2015, this Amels 180 has dark-blue paintwork, a four-deck arrangement and bespoke Lambert & Thurnherr interiors. The selected brokerage record describes five guest cabins rather than treating every yacht in the series as identical.
Its published spaces include a main-deck sauna, folding balconies and a strengthened sundeck with touch-and-go helicopter capability. These are specific features of this yacht; they should not be added to every smaller yacht’s specification or illustration.
The difference from a 30-meter yacht is as much organization as size. A crew complement of up to fourteen, transatlantic-range propulsion and substantial technical spaces call for professional management and a long-term maintenance program. The quoted 4,500-nautical-mile range is tied to 13 knots. Confirm the yacht’s operating condition, class history and service schedule, and evaluate the tax documents behind the advertised EU VAT-paid status before planning any international move.

Sailing Yacht, Catamaran or Superyacht: What Is the Difference?
A sailing yacht is driven primarily by its sails, supported by a keel, rig and an auxiliary engine. The monohulls here include comfort-focused cruisers, a performance-oriented Swan and a large custom sloop. The auxiliary engine provides practical propulsion for maneuvering and other situations; it does not turn a sailing yacht into a motor yacht.
A catamaran has two hulls joined by a bridgedeck. The architecture creates a wide footprint and opportunities for separated cabins, a panoramic saloon and generous deck areas. A sailing catamaran retains a sailing rig; a power catamaran relies on motor propulsion. Cruising accommodation and performance priorities vary substantially between designs. Two hulls do not eliminate motion, seasickness or the need for sound seamanship.
A superyacht has no single universal commercial definition. For this guide, roughly 24 meters LOA is a useful editorial convention, with yachts close to that boundary identified explicitly. The term is not a global legal threshold: hull length, registered length and load-line length can differ from LOA. A large sailing yacht can be a sailing superyacht, and a large catamaran can overlap the same category.
A series-built yacht uses a repeatable platform. A semi-custom yacht combines that platform with owner choices, while a fully custom commission is developed around an individual brief. A delivered yacht, a yacht still in build and an announced project are different purchase situations. The Oyster 885 and NGONI are counted once under Sailing Yacht; the Sunreefs, including the new-build 43M Eco offer, remain under Catamaran. The dedicated Superyacht section contains eight motor monohulls.
Four Luxury Yacht Price Ranges at a Glance
These bands describe full purchase-price references, not deposits, finance payments, fractional shares or charter weeks. Their boundaries do not overlap: below USD 1 million; USD 1 million to below USD 5 million; USD 5 million to below USD 20 million; and USD 20 million upward. They are planning tools for this selection, not a statistical division of all yacht transactions.
Original currencies are retained. Approximate USD equivalents use the European Central Bank reference rates for October 13, 2026: EUR 1 = USD 1.1188 and GBP 0.84460. The implied GBP/USD rate is about 1.32465. These are comparison conversions, not settlement quotes or complete import costs. Prices and public source text were checked on October 14, 2026. What Is Popular, and What Can the Market Data Actually Tell Us?
There is no comparable global model-by-model transaction ranking in the sources reviewed for these four price bands. The selections are established choices with identifiable public price references. They are not an invented list of the world’s most purchased yachts.
IYC’s January–June 2026 market overview reports 444 tracked sales and says its primary focus is yachts of 80 feet, or about 24 meters, and above. That is a partial-year, scoped market report, not a ranking of every smaller sailing yacht or a completed full-year result. Its public overview does not rank the models across this guide’s four budgets.

Under $1 Million
The buyer’s main advantage is access to accommodation and construction quality without using the entire budget on a larger new build. The main compromise is condition. Machinery, sails, rigging, sanitation systems and cosmetic work can change the amount required after purchase. A low asking price should therefore leave room for a survey and an evidence-based preparation budget.
Owner operation may be appropriate for trained and experienced crews, but a skipper can help with familiarization or delivery. EASY requires an operating plan suited to its motor-yacht systems and scale. None of these prices buys a guarantee of simple handling, inexpensive berthing or profitable chartering. Confirm the tax position, inventory and exact handover condition before comparing the examples.
- Sunseeker Predator 82, original generation — EASY: EUR 852,000 (≈ USD 0.953m) (2007; Pre-owned).
$1 Million to Under $5 Million
Choose the operating plan first. A couple making long passages may prefer a monohull with manageable crew roles; a group sharing extended holidays may value equal cabins or broad communal spaces. Larger sail loads and more hotel equipment bring greater service needs. Crew assistance may be occasional or regular, depending on experience and use. Marina beam limits, draft and actual equipment should narrow the shortlist before furnishings make the final decision.
- Sunseeker 88 Yacht, original 2011 generation — NATASCHA: GBP 1,895,000 (≈ USD 2.510m) (2011; Pre-owned).
$5 Million to Under $20 Million
The third band contains KARIBU’s crew-supported Oyster 885 sailing layout, large individually configured catamarans and this guide’s approximately 29–35-meter motor yachts. The Sunreef 80 Eco asks for an engineering-led comparison of propulsion and energy systems; MANTA asks how a twelve-meter-wide motor platform will fit the cruising base. The SL96A, Ferretti 1000, Navetta 33 and Sunseeker 116 offer different arrangements for guest life and professional operation.
The Navetta 33’s documented series launches demonstrate that it is an established platform. They are not annual sales within this price band. Likewise, a manufacturer’s description of a Sunreef as a bestseller does not quantify worldwide closed transactions. The guide uses public asking references to make the comparison concrete without turning inventory into a sales ranking.
Professional crew, technical maintenance and a realistic shore-support plan become prominent considerations. The differences include an asymmetric saloon, an open flybridge, an enclosed upper lounge and an electrical propulsion installation. More accommodation is useful only if the owner’s actual party will use it and the crew can support it.
The main compromise is complexity. A recent refit may improve guest areas while leaving older machinery in place; a sophisticated electrical system may require specialized support. Read the maintenance and refit records as closely as the cabin plan. Each reference here is pre-owned, and every asking price remains separate from tax, delivery and ongoing operating expenses.
- Sanlorenzo SL96A — JICJ: EUR 7,400,000 (≈ USD 8.279m) (2023; Pre-owned).
- Ferretti Yachts 1000 — EPIC, hull 01: EUR 7,900,000 (≈ USD 8.839m) (2021; Pre-owned).
- Sunseeker 116 Yacht — NOROADER: EUR 9,990,000 (≈ USD 11.177m) (2020; refitted 2023; Pre-owned).
- Custom Line Navetta 33 — LUMPASAURUS: USD 11,499,000 (2023; Pre-owned).
$20 Million and Above
The upper band is deliberately open-ended. Its four references are the 49.9-meter Benetti B.Now 50M IRYNA II, the 55-meter Amels 180 LA FAMILIA, the 58-meter custom Royal Huisman sailing yacht NGONI and Sunreef’s 43M Eco hull 004 new-build offer. All three yacht types are represented: large motor platforms, a custom sailing monohull and a broad sailing super-catamaran with a planned 2027 year.
The Amels 180’s cumulative delivery history makes it an established series; it does not show that it is the most purchased yacht worldwide above twenty million dollars. A custom sailing yacht is also unlikely to be meaningfully ranked against series-built motor yachts by a single popularity label. The references are selected for identifiable prices and contrasting ownership briefs.
Moving from a 25–35-meter yacht to a 50–100-plus-meter project changes more than the size of the saloon. Management, crew organization, technical support, surveys and port logistics must be considered as part of the concept. Fully custom builds at the largest end of the market require individual negotiations; this guide does not invent catalog prices for entire shipyards.
IRYNA II, LA FAMILIA and NGONI are delivered, pre-owned yachts. Sunreef hull 004 is separately identified as a new-build offer with a planned 2027 year and VAT excluded; confirm the contract scope and delivery schedule. The prices are public asking references rather than guesses about private construction costs. Cabin and crew arrangements are yacht-specific. Establish the intended operating region and a detailed maintenance or construction plan before treating a headline figure as the final commitment.
- Benetti B.Now 50M — IRYNA II, formerly IRYNA: EUR 29,500,000 (≈ USD 33.005m) (2021 in the IYC listing; Pre-owned).
- Amels 180 — LA FAMILIA: EUR 32,000,000 (≈ USD 35.802m) (2015; Pre-owned).
How Much Does Yacht Ownership Cost Beyond the Purchase Price?
Prepare an operating budget around the actual yacht and itinerary. Berthing depends on the location and footprint; crew costs depend on the chosen staffing arrangement; insurance depends on the vessel, navigation area and use. Fuel consumption changes with speed and conditions, while generators and hotel systems add their own demands. A single percentage of purchase price is not a dependable answer for all twenty-two examples.
A useful plan separates regular expenses from periodic commitments. Regular expenses can include a berth, utilities, crew, insurance, communications and routine service. Periodic commitments can include haul-outs, coatings, propulsion work, rig inspections, replacement sails, class or statutory surveys where applicable, and substantial refits. An older yacht bought at a discount can still carry the maintenance burden of a large, complicated vessel.
For a sailing yacht, establish the age and service history of standing rigging, furlers, winches and sails. For a motor yacht, obtain machinery and stabilization records and the schedule for major work. For an electric-propulsion yacht, add a specialist assessment of batteries, controls, charging and generation. Ask the captain, yard and relevant specialists to prepare quotations against an agreed itinerary rather than a generic annual rule.
The berth and service network are part of the buying decision. A twelve-meter-wide catamaran may need a different marina and lifting arrangement from a monohull of similar length. Draft and air draft can remove destinations from the shortlist. A beautiful yacht that cannot be serviced or comfortably accommodated where you intend to keep it may be the wrong yacht for your ownership plan.
Keep a separate allowance for discoveries made during inspection. The point is to evaluate them before completion, not to assume that every survey finding is either trivial or a reason to abandon the boat. A credible condition report helps establish what should be repaired, negotiated or budgeted. Charter income, appreciation and inexpensive operation should never be treated as guaranteed offsets.
Buying a Luxury Yacht Internationally: What to Check
An international shortlist should compare more than model and price. Establish who owns the vessel, the chain of title, its registration and any mortgage or other encumbrance. Confirm the inventory, the seller’s authority and the terms under which the yacht can be inspected, surveyed and tried at sea. An advertised tax label is a starting point for documents, not permission to import the yacht anywhere.
The Royal Yachting Association’s buying guidance highlights written agreements, ownership evidence, survey and sea-trial conditions, equipment inclusions and the treatment of mortgages. Its guidance is UK-focused; the relevant advisers must establish the rules for the chosen flag, purchase location and destination. Registration paperwork and ownership evidence should not be casually treated as the same document.
Commission an independent marine survey with a scope appropriate to the yacht. Machinery, hull structure, installations, rig and refit records may require different specialists. The Association of Brokers and Yacht Agents’ buying guide also discusses the survey, sea trial, documentation and insurance before possession. A seller’s report or claim of turnkey condition can inform the process, but it does not replace your own assessment.
Separate private cruising from commercial charter operation. The necessary certification, staffing, operating permissions and taxes depend on the specific jurisdiction and use. Do not infer one legal answer from the guide’s roughly 24-meter editorial definition. Confirm delivery location, transport or passage costs, warranty transfer and the scope of equipment included in the sale.
Start with a clear written brief when contacting a seller: intended cruising region, full purchase budget, target year, required cabins, operating crew and preferred tax position. Use ALVAU’s international yacht category as a place to start comparing opportunities, then verify each actual listing. The prices in this article come from the linked builders and brokers, not from confirmed ALVAU advertisements.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a sailing yacht, a catamaran and a superyacht?
Sailing yacht describes the primary propulsion; catamaran describes a two-hull structure; superyacht describes scale and a commercial category without one universal definition. A yacht can therefore overlap categories. This guide gives every example one primary section to avoid duplicate profiles.
How much does a luxury yacht cost in these four price ranges?
The selected references range from USD 649,000 used catamarans to a EUR 42 million new-build sailing super-catamaran offer. Their exact band positions use the dated exchange rates stated above. Every yacht type has at least one example in each of the four USD budgets. These are identifiable asking or published edition figures, not model-wide averages or verified closed-sale prices.
Can you buy a luxury yacht for under USD 1 million?
Four pre-owned examples represent a sports motor yacht, a cruising monohull and two catamarans below that threshold. What matters next is the condition, equipment, tax position and preparation budget. The motor example is an older 2007 Predator 82; a larger used yacht at a low purchase price is not automatically inexpensive to operate.
Which builders are established choices in each budget?
The first band includes Sunseeker, Hallberg-Rassy, Lagoon and Leopard. The second includes Sunseeker, Hallberg-Rassy, Oyster, Nautor Swan, Lagoon and Sunreef. The third contains Oyster, Sunreef, Sanlorenzo, Ferretti, Custom Line and Sunseeker. The fourth includes Benetti, Amels, Royal Huisman and a Sunreef new-build offer. These are selected examples, not an exhaustive market or sales ranking.
Are there reliable rankings of the world’s most purchased luxury yachts?
The reviewed public sources do not provide a comparable global model ranking across these four USD bands. Manufacturer bestseller descriptions, launches, deliveries and active listings measure different things. IYC’s partial-year market overview is useful context, but does not resolve that model-by-budget question.
Is a sailing catamaran different from a power catamaran?
Yes. The sailing examples retain a mast, sails and auxiliary propulsion. MANTA is a conventional motor catamaran with diesel engines and no sailing rig. An Eco version can also have a different propulsion and energy installation from a classic model with a similar name.
Can a sailing yacht or catamaran also be a superyacht?
Yes. NGONI is a 58-meter sailing superyacht, and the original Oyster 885 is also above the guide’s approximate length convention. The 80-foot Sunreefs sit close to that boundary; the 43M Eco new-build offer is substantially larger. Each yacht receives one primary category here. Legal requirements use separate definitions and measurement rules.
What changes when moving from a USD 2 million yacht to a USD 20 million yacht?
The change usually involves more technical systems, more distinct guest and service spaces, a larger operating footprint and greater professional support. The exact difference depends on the yacht: a large custom sailing vessel and a multi-deck motor yacht can have very different priorities at similar prices.
What should you check before buying a pre-owned yacht internationally?
Verify ownership and encumbrances, the inventory, registration and tax documents, the contract conditions and the yacht’s actual technical state. Arrange appropriate independent surveys and a sea trial, and establish the rules and costs for the intended flag, destination and use before completion.
Where can you start looking for these three yacht types?
Start with Sailing Yachts on ALVAU, Catamarans on ALVAU or Superyachts on ALVAU. Compare the actual listing’s year, price, tax status, location and records. The platform’s international reach does not confirm availability of every model described in this guide.
Start Your Yacht Search on ALVAU
Need to buy? Ready to sell? Start with ALVAU—an international marketplace for products, services, and property. For a yacht purchase, begin with a clear goal: decide whether sailing involvement, broad catamaran living or professionally crewed superyacht space best fits the way you travel.
Then set a full purchase budget, identify the cruising base and compare the actual yachts available. Use a model guide to build the brief, not to bypass surveys, documentation or a seller conversation. Think beyond your local marina. Choose your yacht type. Set your budget. Start with ALVAU.
